3 Years!

20 Jun

Today marks 3 years since I adopted Lucy.

I always tell people that adopting a dog is the second best decision I have ever made. They ask: “What’s the first?” And I explain that it is getting my own apartment so that I could adopt a dog! Lucy has made my day-to-day life better in so many ways, but most importantly, that through the redundancy and stress of it all, I can come home to her everyday and just have fun tossing a ball around. Life becomes simple because all it is really is “a boy and his dog.”

Happy Gotcha Day, Ellie!

18 Jun

It was one year ago, today, that Bully Project‘s first adoptable was officially adopted. We called her Paige, but her mom calls her Ellie. The day she was adopted will always be one of the days that make us the most proud, but it’s also the day we made a wonderful new friend in Ellie’s mom, Rebecca.

Adoptable Pittie of the Week: Chunk

17 Jun

66 lbs of love! That’s Chunk!

Chunk

Chunk

This boy is as easy-going as you could ever imagine a dog being. He simply wants to be around people, and he’s totally content. Though he may look like a big, athletic dog (which he is, of course), he enjoys spending most of his time getting head scratches, but scratches, eating grass, and getting as close to people as possible.

Chunk

Chunk

He is approximately four years old, which means he’s already fully developed. So, what you see is what you get. You don’t have to worry about this boy’s personality changing radically, and he’s as big as he’s going to get.

Chunk

Chunk

Chunk is currently recovering from a bad case of kennel cough, and as soon as he’s healthy, he will be neutered. He is already fully vaccinated and microchipped, and ready for love.

Chunk

Chunk

He seems to be friendly with dogs, but considering his illness is contagious, we are limiting his interactions greatly. It seems like he wants to play, but he is getting frustrated with not being able to actually do so. Hopefully, we can start to let him interact more soon!

We’re still looking for a foster home for Chunk, or better yet, an adopter. If you’re interested in being either of those for this sweet Chunk of love, please email us at bullyprojectnyc@gmail.com.

Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days Success

14 Jun

Two weeks ago, we participated in the Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days, the biggest free pet adoption event in America. The goal was to place hundreds of dogs and cats in qualified forever homes on June 1 & 2. We were very successful, having seven dogs adopted within those two days.

Join us in wishing well to these pups as they continue their lives in wonderful forever homes!

Chunk Update

13 Jun

Yesterday, we shared a picture of a dog that we wanted to try to rescue from NYC’s public shelter. Well, we did it!

Chunk

Chunk

We’ve renamed him Chunk! We will be picking him up from the shelter in about an hour, and bringing him to our vet for quarantine since he is very sick.

However, we are still looking for a foster home, or better yet, an adopter for this handsome guy! He’s also very ill, and will need considerable medical care. If you can, please consider making a donation online towards his care.

Please email us at bullyprojectnyc@gmail.com for more information about fostering or adopting Chunk!

We’re Looking for a Few Good Foster Homes!

10 Jun

Recently, because of one reason or another, Bully Project has lost all but one of our foster homes, and John is still currently living there, waiting for someone to adopt him! So sadly, we’re sort of a stand still in regards to our rescuing efforts. That being said, there are still dogs out there who need our help! Like this guy:

Elvis

Elvis

Elvis (well, that’s what we would call him if we found a foster home and were able to take him into our program) is about 5 or 6 months old, and has an obvious birth defect that looks like a cleft nose (and maybe palate, too). He’s a sweet boy who was found as a stray, and is very well behaved on leash, likes other dogs, and all people.

Elvis

Without foster homes, sweet, young dogs like Elvis could end up at the public shelter, where infection runs rampant. We’d really like to help this guy avoid the shelter at all costs, and help him find his perfect forever home.

What does fostering entail? We would ask the you care for the dog as if it were your own for the length of time that you have him in your care. Bully Project will provide food for the duration of the foster period, some treats, some toys, a crate, a leash, a collar, and a harness. We would also cover the costs of any medical care and necessary training. Basically, you provide the love, we’ll take care of the rest!

So, please, New York! Help us out! If you think you can foster a dog, even for a period as short as two weeks, please email us at bullyprojectnyc@gmail.com.

What’s In My BarkBox?

23 May

May’s BarkBox is “a celebration of all the things we love about being outside.” With lots of thing to chew on, each product represents a different activity we can do to enjoy the springtime. Firstly, BarkBox has a new look! Check it out:

Instead of the shreds of blue paper that used to come inside our BarkBox, we now have the classy, branded paper wrapping our goodies! So fancy! Take a closer look:

It’s lovely, I just wish it didn’t have some of the words that typically have a negative connotation, like growl, yap and guard. Along with the new packaging also comes a new little tip card, with a cute little cartoon:

On the back, it reads, “Our dogs love their goodies, but their favorite thing in the world is to spend time with their humans. A great spring activity is to simply take out the leash and go exploring to a new park or neighborhood.” We completely agree! Get out there with your pup and explore! Now to the good stuff…

First up, from Planet Dog, we got an Orbee-Tuff ball! These durable toys are great for fetch, as well as just keeping your dog entertained on its own for a while. Best of all, they’re minty-fresh so they help cover up the sometimes unpleasant odors that come from your pup’s mouth!

Next up, we got a pig femur bone from Barkworthies! The best kind of distraction for a pup when you need to get some work done around the house, this will keep your dog busy for quite a long time!

To represent the joy of a spring/summer time BBQ, we got Loving Pets’ Grill-icious Beef Treats! Made with sweet potato, these are super healthy and all natural. They’ll make a great special snack when Lucy is behaving especially well.
