Adoptable Pittie of the Week: Luigi

9 Jul

This week, we’re featuring our first ever senior dog as our Adoptable Pittie of the Week. Everyone, meet the very handsome Luigi, from Yonkers Animal Shelter.

Luigi pretty much stole our hearts before we even got to meet him. We were at the shelter looking to rescue a dog (who turned out to be Paige) when we saw Luigi sitting in crate. But hurrah! The sign on the crate said, “Please fast. Being neutered tomorrow for adopter.” Adopter! Yes! Luigi was going home, so he didn’t need us to rescue him, right?

Wrong. Luigi’s adopter backed-out. But we already rescued Paige, and Doris Day, too. So now we’re at this point where we need to find Luigi a great home with your help, readers. Luigi is a 9 year old male pit mix. He loves people, is neutered, full vaccinated, and overall, just ready to go.

You know you want me.

His beautiful brindle coat really stands out against his distinguished silver fur on his face. For a older gent, he very sturdy and healthy, and has great pep in his step, but it’s clear what he really longs for is a human to sit and relax with for the rest of his years. Wont you consider giving this amazing dog the wonderful life he deserves?

If you would like to adopt Luigi, or know someone who might, please contact the shelter’s volunteer adoption coordinator, Leslie, by emailing

What a sweet ole boy! Since I have been fostering and rescuing, I have decided that my next family member will be a senior male pit. The only down side is less time to love them (in theory) but the fact that they probably have all their bad destructive habits behind them and are past having boundless amounts of unbridled energy…I can’t wait until I have room (and finances) to welcome a wise one to my pack…thank you for sharing this guy…lets get him a perfect home!

I have walked Luigi and played with him, as a volunteer, and have stood outside his run on many occasions and handed him treats. He’s so companionable and calm, and he radiates intelligence and stoicism. He’s truly just waiting for the person who notices him and only him, amid the shelter hubbub. You can see in his eyes how surprised he is to find himself in this situation, but it hasn’t broken his spirit. He’s waiting now like he was waiting the first morning. For someone he can love again. Thank you for featuring Yonkers dogs.

You don’t have to be local to the Yonkers Shelter to adopt Luigi. There is a rescue that works with the Yonkers Shelter, enabling Luigi to be adopted all across the U.S…and transport will even be provided for free! Please don’t let distance stop you from helping this sweet senior (There are Yonkers Shelter dogs thriving in homes throughout the US) If Luigi sounds like the guy for your family, please contact (201) 981-3215 or email:
