Bye Bye Bullies!

3 May

Our first session of 2012 Bully Project classes have come to an end – and our last class this past weekend was, in a word, incredible! We made a lot of headway and saw tons of improvement in all of the dogs from our first class with them to our last. And possibly the most exciting outcome: three of our students got spayed!

For our final class, we focused on sit-stays, down-stays and recall, which are two of the required tasks in the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen test. We’re proud to report that all of our dogs picked up on these commands very quickly! But there were definitely a couple of standouts: Kiara and Scout. Both showed great patience in their stays and went immediately to their owner when called, even with all the other dogs around to distract them!

We also worked with the dogs on loose leash walking and walking through crowds of people and dogs – two more tasks in the CGC test. There was one dog team we were particularly proud of with this: Megan and Dayzee. Dayzee is slightly leash reactive, so we weren’t quite sure how she would fare, but with plenty of praise and rewards, she focused extra hard on her mom, kept totally calm and collected, and made it around all of the other students with ease! It was a very exhilarating moment.

And a huge thanks to Stella & Chewy’s, who made sure we had plenty of rewards by being our treat sponsor:

Lastly, we have to thank our brilliant trainer, Ann King of Canine King, who donated her time and energy for these classes and is continuing to do so for our next session, starting this weekend!

We can’t wait to meet all of our new trainees!
