Happy Birthday Lucy!

20 Dec

Today is the “birthday” of the one and only Lucy Blye! We say “birthday” because, of course, Lucy is a rescue and we never really know their real birthdays, now do we? But December 20, 2009 is her estimated birthday, so that’s when we celebrate – and today, Lucy is 2 years old!

I (Josh) never really know how best to celebrate a dog’s birthday, so I want to turn this post over to you guys. How do you celebrate your pets’ birthdays? Treats? Trips? Playdates? Parties? People food?

Tell us in the comments!

We have 5 of our own dogs and a pretty much a foster dog all year round. We are vegetarians, and actually mostly vegan, so needless to say – the dogs do not get any scraps or meat treats by way of our meals or cooking (they do get dog food and treats that are of course meat-based). At each dog’s birthday, we go to McDonald’s and everyone gets a cheese burger and then we get a couple of mongo-sized fries. We it home, unwrap and cut each burger into bite-sized pieces while chaos reigns around us with anticipation. We then have someone video us singing happy birthday to the birthday girl or boy while everyone jumps for joy – then we place everything down on the kitchen floor as quickly as possible and they snarf up their birthday meals in about 20 seconds, then we play a game of “raining french fries” while they scarf those down, too. We have many videos of to enjoy!

Julie: that sounds amazing! We’d love to see one of your videos! You can email it to us or post it on our Facebook wall! That’s hilarious, and I know Lucy would LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

That is the most amazing birthday celebration!!!

Havi is happiest when BOTH of us are home. So we cuddle and love her and sneak her treats.

We throw a doggy birthday party, which I blogged about awhile back (http://waldobungie.wordpress.com/2011/04/15/dog-birthday-party/) and I let the dogs eat one cupcake each. It’s always really fun…though this year we’re totally going to “make it rain” french fries, because that idea is awesome!

    Happy Birthday Lucy!

We don’t really celebrate birthdays for our dogs (they’re all rescues too), but I like to think that we spoil them enough throughout the year to make up for it 🙂
