Shopping for your Pit (or Pet) on a Budget

8 Dec

So, we don’t know about you, but we love a good deal. Especially here in New York City, where everything typically costs 800 times more than, well, anywhere else. So here are some of our tips and tricks for finding pet supplies at the lowest prices possible!

1) We’ve all heard of the “flash sales” websites. Well, did you know there are some exclusively for pet products? Just yesterday we ordered products from both Doggyloot and Barking Deals. We bought 10 (!) bully sticks from Best Bully Sticks from Doggyloot for $16! From Barking Deals, we bought a Kong Squiggle (to replace the one that Lucy destroyed last week) for $7! We have a fun time playing tug with Lucy with this toy – when it’s fully stretched out, sometimes we let it go and it bops Lucy on the head. Endless fun! These two sites have a wide array of different products available, and we highly recommend you check them out.

2) We also really love the “flash sales” sites, One Kings Lane and Gilt Home for pet supplies. These three companies usually carry products like pet clothing, bowls, beds, and toys. They typically don’t sell treats and food as they’re really geared towards people looking for aesthetically pleasing home goods at a cheap price. If you’re also obsessed with interior design, like me, these sites are great resources not only for products, but for ideas.

3) Subscribe to The Daily Kibble. This newsletter doesn’t really offer sales on products, but they occasionally tell you where to find them. They also regularly have contests to win amazing prizes from some of the top pet supply merchants. Right now, they’re doing the “21-derful Days of Christmas”: 21 days of individual contests, and all you need to do to enter is submit your email address! Some of the prizes have included fancy elevated dog bowls, pet carriers, PetHub collars (which we talked about in our Favorite Things post), and more!

4) One of our favorite blogs is Dog Milk. We read it everyday to see what cool and clever new products are out there. They don’t often have information about special deals or sales, but if you see a product you like on there – bookmark the website for it! Keep checking back and you may find yourself saving a few bucks around the holidays or at the end of each season!

5) Shop on! They’ve got some of the best prices around on some of Lucy’s favorite toys, and if you order $49 worth of merchandise, the shipping is free! For that amount, you can get a ton of stuff – which is great for us foster families!

6) Sign up for manufacturers’ e-newsletters and buy direct from them! Skip the middleman, don’t go to the pet store at all, and have your dog products delivered right to your door! Best of all, the newsletters all include amazing coupons and discount codes so that you’ll definitely end up paying much less than retail. You and your dog will be much more happier for it!
